KIU Nursing Students Embark on Tight Study Schedule

KIU, Western Campus – KIU Nursing students have embarked on a tight study schedule amidst the COVID-19 difficulties in a bid to graduate early and join the national medical human resource workforce.

In the just-released study schedule by the Business Technical and Vocational Education and Training (BTVET), the students, who have already commenced classes, will have around 7 weeks of study, before they start their exams on November 30.

Annet Kabanyoro (in the picture), the Dean for the School of Nursing sciences revealed that immediately they complete their exams, they will begin their next semester barring another lockdown.

“The released school calendar stipulates that they begin their exams on November 30 and finish on December 10 and then begin their next semester on December 11,” Kabanyoro said.

She, however, warned the students against abusing the Standard Operating procedures (SOPs) put in place by the Ministry of Health to guard against the further spread of COVID-19.

“We shall not hesitate to suspend any student who doesn’t comply with the rules set in their hostels. And if anyone doesn’t comply with the rules at the university, we shall have no other option apart from putting them in mandatory quarantine,” she warned.

When President Yoweri Museveni was explaining the reason behind his decision to open school for Health Sciences students, he said that the sector is essential to the country’s development. Hence the need for Nursing students to complete school and support the sector.
